BlackBerry Curve 8900 Review

Blackberry Storm features the world’s first virtual keyboard of the mark, here is the 8900 Curve, a model derived from the Bold, released last year.

The main idea is to offer the greatest device to communicate as easily as voice and writing with a physical keyboard. A large screen (not touch), an operating system house, GPS , Wi-Fi and many multimedia options without sacrificing the message handler, contacts, and appointments. Three things what made  BlackBerry succes.

Is it up to the expectations? The answer in this test of the RIM Blackberry 8900 Curve.

Physicaly
The Blackberry 8900 Curve is very similar externally to the Bold just a bit little smaller. It has a large screen displaying a resolution of 480 × 360 pixels. Below, there is a physical keyboard of 35 backlit buttons. Between the keyboard and the screen is the key to getting the button to hang up, the key to access the menu of the device and the button to return to the previous menu where you are in options or programs . Finally, in the center, there is a “trackball”, a sort of small ball that rolls in all directions and can move through menus of the device.

This principle is identical to the one available on the Bold. It is very effective despite the fact that on our test model, movement to the left were a little sporadic.

The keyboard and the screen is surrounded by a halo of chrome enhances the finish. Overall, the camera is perfectly designed and does not suffer any problem malfabrication. The top of the device contains two buttons that allow you to lock the keyboard and cut the ring. These two shortcuts are particularly valuable.

The left-hand edge of the Curve 8900 this button to launch the application for recognition of voice commands. On the other hand, there is the Micro-USB port to connect the device to a computer (PC only), the button to launch the camera application, a dual button to increase or decrease the volume and the 3.5 mm jack for listening to music.

At the rear of the 8900 Curve, the camera lens is located just next to the flash. The rear hull is removed to change the battery, the SIM card or memory card. The 8900 Curve accepts microSD memory cards. Note that it is not necessary to remove the battery to change the memory card.

Inside
The Curve is very easy to use. Is used mainly trackball, two contiguous and keys at the touch of the ball, the functions are validated.

The device incorporates a manager messages (emails, SMS and MMS). It is clear that the 8900 Curve is for those who share much by rapid or instant messaging. The emails are well off because the messaging menu gives direct access. Text messages are a little less. For example, we found that taquin receiving an SMS, it should choose the package to SMS each time (available in 3 clicks). We would have liked faster access.
To communicate easily and quickly, there is Windows Live Messenger, Facebook and Blackberry Messenger.

With an internal GPS, the Curve 8900 can quickly find an address and displays the map with Google Maps.
The menus are clear. Browsing applications, we realize that it was sometimes two shortcuts for the same program. It is not very serious … For example, you can start listening to the music from the Music and Multimedia application.

This includes browsing the Internet. The Balckberry Curve 8900 is compatible with GPRS and Edge but not 3G. It was a deliberate choice that RIM believes that its navigation technology and receiving emails Edge mode is equivalent to competing in 3G mode. In use, browsing web pages is actually fun and does not suffer too many delays. We appreciate it. Wi-Fi, it can also connect to a Wi-Fi or a set-top box of an individual.

It is possible to install many applications on the 8900 Curve, like most devices of the mark. To do this, simply connect to the Applications Center renamed App Store via the Internet World. Programs to download and install directly on the phone.

The keyboard is very pleasant to use. The errors are quite low. The interface is generally very good.
Welcome the autonomy of the Curve 8900 which takes 3 days in normal use, ie telephone, answering some texting, some internet browsing, an address and a location using Google Maps.

Multimedia
We quickly discussed previously with double entry to read music. The 3.5 mm jack lets you connect any headphones that you appreciate.

Video side, the resolution is just sufficient for the full-screen mode, while the device lacks reactivity in photo. We should not count on it to capture short moments. The Macro mode is doing well.

Conclusion:

Pros
- The backlit keyboard
- Compatibility App World
- The trackball
- The general ergonomics
- The quality of the screen
- Headphone Jack 3.5 mm audio jack
- Weight

This new Blackberry will seduce many, very pleasant to use on a daily basis apart from the concept of mail folder. First of all thanks to its attractive price positioning and then with features to organize very ergonomic, good autonomy, easy entry and a nice screen.
