Blackberry Storm 2 Review: SurePress Technology Improved
Research in Motion (RIM) makes its second attempt in smartphones market touch of the hand, precisely, the Blackberry Storm 2 or Blackberry 9520, a revision of the original model that adds some features and improves defects that prevented the Storm put a dent in this difficult segment.
Equipped with 3.25-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi connectivity and more memory for storage and operations, New Storm is virtually identical in appearance and handling to its predecessor. Let’s take a look.
Design and Display
Externally, Storm 2 differs very little from the original Storm. The design remains unchanged except for (again according to RIM) some in materials improvements. The device measures 112.5 x 62.2 x 14 mm and weighs 160 grams, slightly less light than other smartphones in its class.
Storm 2 The screen measures 3.25 inches diagonal and has of 480 × 360 pixels resolution. Its position guided by accelerometer and has a new proximity sensor which is very common in the first model. The new Storm accelerometer remains better than the original one, whose position is alternated wildly at the slightest movement.
The Touch Screen
Research in Motion repeats SurePress technology that makes the whole screen as a large button. In the original model, SurePress technology trusted their fate to a single button and more than one user complained of poor response. For this release, the manufacturer has provided four independent s pressure zones that is supposed to improve this sensitivity problem.
Storage, Camera and Multimedia
The Storm 2 doubles the performance of the original model with 256MB of RAM and 2GB of internal memory, expandable to 16GB through the other port for MicroSD cards.
As for the camera remains at 3.15-megapixel (2048 × 1536 pixels in JPG format) with autofocus, LED flash, geolocation and image stabilizer. It also records video and, as in the previous model, brings no front camera for video conferencing.
The multimedia features of the device that reach MP4, H.264 or WMV video, supported also by an ability to sync with iTunes and the Windows player.
Connectivity
The Blackberry Storm 2 connections include HSDPA 7.2 MB / S, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, A-GPS with Blackberry Maps and a first time, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g. physically, the terminal offers audio jack of 3.5 mm and microUSB for charging and PC connection.
The Power
Another interesting aspect of the new Storm is its battery; a 1400 milliamp battery can endure 6 hours talk on 3G and up to 280 hours, also on 3G networks.
The Storm 2 will be exclusively distributed by Vodafone, which has exclusive terminal by December. No specified price or exact departure dates for now.
