Amazon Kindle Arrives in Spain
The Amazon Kindle will be sold in Spain and in 100 other countries from 19th of this month.
With just under an inch thickness and of 289 grams weight, Kindle is a library in itself. It can store two gigabytes of internal memory up to 1,500 books. Amazon sells more than 200,000 books worldwide for prices ranging from four to six euros. Publishing houses like Penguin, Faber and Faber and Lonely Planet have already signed agreements with Amazon to offer its books through that device. “The publishing industry is experiencing tremendous growth in digital sales of books in the U.S. And we hope to stimulate digital purchases in the world,” said Penguin CEO John Makinson yesterday.
This optimism reasons has arrived. The selling is moving into the digital age. Amazon already announced on Sept. 15 that the new Dan Brown book “The Lost Symbol” sold more copies in Kindle format than paper in its first day. Digital readers like the Kindle because it is a way to save money and paper. Kindle is also a reader adapted to the daily press. The owners can subscribe to international newspapers like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Le Monde and La Stampa. 
In July, PRISA Group announced that readers will have special editions for El País, Cinco Dias and AS in Kindle “It will be a special edition of these journals with special characteristics adapted to the Kindle,” said Jesus del Rio, director of products and innovation Prisa.com. “We offer the full articles of paper editions of the diaries, with their corresponding images in a simple format and easy reading.”
