Pentax K7 Review: Full Facilities

A CMOS image sensor with 14.6 megapixels, Eleven-point autofocus or 3-inch monitor, the Pentax K-7 spoiled ambitious photographers with its opulent furnishings. The new Pentax K7 DSLR brings very good impression and lack of noise.

Pentax K-7 equipment list is long. Thus, the CMOS image sensor in APS-C format to 14.6 megapixels and offers four-channel readout. For this purpose, the K-7 on an integrated image stabilizer and provides a three-inch monitor. Already there is progress compared to only half as expensive K20D from home much the same: The monitor displays with four times as many pixels – a total of 921,000 – a very sharp picture. The prism viewfinder promises cheaper in comparison to the K20D more field of view (100 percent instead of 95 per cent).

The equipment list holds more interesting points: An ability to take an elf-point autofocus and exposure metering with 77 segments. Helpful in orienting the camera is the electronic bubble in duplicate – once in the display, even in the monitor. The HDR feature (High Dynamic Range) finished three pictures in succession and they are already calculated in the camera to a picture together, thus saving the subsequent processing on the computer. The menu allows the photographer the camera to the smallest detail control. Various recording settings are just as possible as individual functional assignments to the two jog wheels or simple image editing options for playback. In short, the feature set is enormous.

Insensitive to Spill
pentax-k7Pentax uses the chassis of magnesium alloy – which saves weight (the body weighs 755 grams). Against dust and spray water to protect a total of 77 seals. Consistently follows the Pentax outdoor approach in the lenses: The offer includes two splash-proof optical zoom (recognizable by the addition of WR in the name of the product) in the focal length range from 18 to 55 millimeters (equivalent to 27 to 82.5 millimeters KB) and 50 to 200 millimeters (equivalent to 76.5 -307 millimeters KB). The kit with the 18-55 mm lens will cost the K-7 around 1,400 Euros.

For Sports Photographers and Filmmakers
In video mode fits Pentax beats the competition in the K-7 is high-resolution HD standard (720p) 1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 frames per second. In 3:2 aspect ratio increases the resolution to 1,536 x 1,024 pixels, true Full HD but do not dominate. The film should also separate microphone input and the strong hands looking image stabilizer. An HDMI output is available. Negative: The autofocus works during recording not.

Series recordings will shoot the K-7 in flotter result: 5.2 per second manage photos in one go up to 23 shots in a row – no matter whether you are in JPEG or RAW format. On the other hand, cuts the operating time of 0.5 seconds in the test just as mediocre. The battery is enough under the best conditions for up to 1,600 shots.

Image Noise Test Revealed
Our tester managed a maximum resolution of 2361 x 2355 lines at ISO 800, there were still 2338 x 2294 lines – good values in this class. Weaknesses occurred but for the noise measurement on. Especially at higher light sensitivities K7 showed a greater image noise than most competing DSLR in its class. In direct comparison with the models in our rankings of the DSLR cut up to 1,000 Euros in all the noise behavior better than the Pentax. With a minimum of sensitivity to light, the noise value of 200, at ISO 400 is already 347 and at ISO 800 even 498th For comparison: The camera with the lowest overall image noise, the Canon EOS 1000D provides the test noise levels of 85 (ISO min), 176 (ISO 400) and 221 (ISO 800).

To get even a picture, we have in the photo line deposited some sample recordings. These photos, we have recorded with different settings: In the factory setting with moderate noise, without noise and in the three highest sensitivity with maximum noise levels.

Conclusion
The Pentax K-7 fascinates with its extensive facilities. There can be no other DSLR in this price class to keep pace. But where is much light, there is also shadow and same is the weakness of the K-7 in the form of noise particularly clearly visible. Hopefully Pentax will revise their firmware soon.

Pentax Optio W80, Compact and Tough Camera

The compact market seems quiet for the summer season, but Pentax has used to launch the Optio W80. Its main feature is designed to withstand extreme conditions.

The Pentax Optio W80 is a compact travel and especially for the adventurous. It is designed to resist water, dust and shock. Even it doesn’t use titanium, but it may seem to be quite resilient. Which makes it an ideal compact for travel and lose the extreme care with which we usually put the page.

Among the striking features include supporting and splashing rain, and can dive to a depth under water of 5 meters. And besides, tough coating you can emerge unscathed from a fall of up to 1 meter in height. It also supports extreme temperatures of up to 10 degrees below zero. And all this without losing a very compact size, and apparently at a price not too high (and that it improves enough to its predecessor, the Optio W60).

Its also featuring 12.1 megapixel sensor, an optical zoom of 5 increases with angle of 28 mm, all in a slim body and the lens is wrapped with a mineral glass coating to repel water, dirt and the traces of the fingers. It has a 2.5 inch LCD screen and video recording (which given that it provides us with an underwater option for the most fun divers). Of course, it also incorporates other features such as the usual face detection, Smile, has reduced the vibration. Available in red, blue and gray and goes on sale in July for an approximate price of about $ 300 in the U.S. market. We imagine that happen in Europe by 300 Euros.
