Nokia N97 Review
Since it was introduced in the last Nokia World, the Nokia N97 has a lot to talk about. Ansi Vanjoki , President of the Finnish company, already referred to its new flagship as a “Pocket PC”. Of course, this is the most powerful Nokia mobile with a difference, and possibly one of the most advanced on the market today.
There are other brands of terminals that exceed this in some heavyweight issues such as camera or processor, but always lack something, that if there is no Wi-Fi, that if the internal memory is ridiculously small. If anything it is the Nokia N97 is precisely because it has everything in abundance. Let’s see in detail.
We first analyze the Nokia N97 is its peculiar form factor. Mobile combines the functionality of a large 3.5-inch touchscreen with a full QWERTY keyboard that is displayed by sliding the screen to one side. Once deployed, the screen is in an inclined position, giving the N97 looks like a tiny PC in line with other phones like the HTC Titan TNII. The hinges are used to this movement across the interior and have a really strong, at least for the time we’ve tested the terminal.
Management
The keyboard also has a directional pad for navigation support. With the phone closed, the only controls are visible and hanging down the menu button and the controls of the typical side as Nokia camera or volume. The touch screen responds quickly but is not multitáctil. In other words, does not allow several maneuvers fingers at once as the iphone. However, with the position sensor, proximity and ambient light for self. The screen resolution is 640 × 360. Not bad, although we have seen higher.
Interface
The N97’s interface has been solved with various configurable panels that form the home page and permit access to the various functions of mobile comfort. They also carry all kinds of widgets. The N97 uses the Symbian S60 operating system in its fifth edition and is ready to move automatically, either as firmware in the system itself.
Processor
Technically, the processor of the N97 has been one of the great mysteries of the terminal. According to sources outside the company, the terminal 11 uses an ARM processor to 434 Mhz with 128 MB of RAM dedicated to “thinking.” It’s the same chip as other phones that use the N86 and it almost seems that they should have installed something stronger. Especially when emerging market TG01 monstrosities like Toshiba, Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a 1GHz or HD Omnia whose processor runs at 800 Mhz.
However, it seems that the Finns have decided to work with a chip that is an old acquaintance of the company to maximize and optimize the operation of the software to take advantage of the power is so smooth and soft. Using only one good season out of the terminal, we doubt whether it is a wise decision or not.
Memory
As if that is the Nokia N97 (still) is in the internal memory. While the remaining terminals are equipped with disasters such as 50, 60 or 150 MB of storage and sad just rely on microSD cards, with the Nokia N97 has 32GB of internal memory in addition to the other port 16GB MicroSD cards .
House
The camera is, for some, another major “disappointment” of the N97 (near the processor). Finally the phone goes on sale with a 5 megapixel camera (2584 x 1938 on each photo). In this regard we must also get a bit serious. It is true that other models like the N86 have a higher resolution camera, but, gentlemen, that is a cellphone, not a SLR.
The megapixels are not absolutely nothing unless accompanied by a sound sensor, an optical sound and speed of use. The N97 integrates, in this case, a Carl Zeiss optics which is a guarantee in itself. To date, the terminals of the Nokia N series has boasted of making some really cool pictures. In the end, having a sensor of 8, 10 or 12 megapixels just for having to handle large files and little else. Nokia’s camera also has autofocus, dual LED flash, zoom and x12 digital video recording at 30 FPS MPG4 16:9.
Connections
In connectivity, the N97 integrates the entire range of a high-end connections from the USB until HSDPA, and of course Wi-Fi 802.11b / g Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. Everything you need in order to be perpetually connected to the internet from the hand of the pricing plans that Movistar, to be sure, will be similar to the iPhone.
Extras
The section of extras includes A-GPS with digital compass to detect the orientation of the mobile. Nokia plans to use this unusual combination for different applications that allow the terminal to inform us, for example, that monument to photograph or just to access the website of a concert ticket just focusing on the poster. All these functions leaving Iran with time, so for now, be content with the FM radio with RDS and Visual Radio, the broad compatibility of audio and video files with TV output and a dedicated headphone input universal 3 5mm and the dozens of applications that integrates Nokia OVI under the platform and includes Nokia Maps, Nokia Files on OVI or mail. You have all the other details of this flagship Finnish in the accompanying table.
The best
An enormous amount of memory and good balance of features supported by vast amounts of software itself as useful as fun.
Can be improved
The camera could have been 8 megapixels and the faster processor, but broadly, there is no detail intrinsically wrong with the N97
